Musings: Happy Days

Today’s topic is: “Describe the happiest day of your life. “

I don’t think my memory is good enough to narrow my whole life down to a single happiest day. So I’ve decided to list my most recent top ten instead, in chronological order.

Aug 14 2006

August 14, 2006 (the day I foolishly eloped…)
Young, stupid, totally out-of-character. Not surprisingly, it turned out to be a very, very short marriage. But on that day, a big part of me was happy. Married before 30! But part of me was also very sad that my mom wasn’t there to share it with me. (Thankfully, my whole family was at the one that really mattered, seven years later.)

Oct 2008

October 29, 2008 (the day I bought my first house…)
Yeah! I was finally a grown-up!

July 3, 2009 (the day I bought my dream sports car…)
Pictured in the photo above, check out this post for all the juicy details.

September 16, 2011 (the day I bought my dream truck…)
After having spent countless weekends in 2009-2010 working on the restoration of a nearly identical vehicle, I finally tracked down a rust-free, well-maintained 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser of my own. She was Elsie and she was lovely!

January 31, 2012 (the first time I went zip-lining…)
So fast! So windy! So much fun!! The perfect end to an amazing month-long adventure through Belize, Costa Rica, and Guatemala with my new sweetheart!

Apr 13 2012

April 13, 2012 (the day I found out I was pregnant…)
Took more than one test and called the local nurse hotline before I believed that there is no such thing as a false positive. Then I called my parents, my sister, and my former boss. Had to wait until the end of the workday to tell my man the exciting (and unexpected) news.

November 30, 2012 (the day I sold my first house…)
Yeah! I was finally out of debt again! Now the only thing I have to worry about is how to get this baby out.

December 7, 2012 (the day after the birth of my first daughter…)
The actual day of labor was full of excitement, fear, uncertainty, pain, and exhaustion. That wasn’t so great. But the next day, when she was sleeping safely in my arms, looking so flippin’ adorable, that was a very happy day indeed.

Sep 1 2013

September 1, 2013 (my real wedding day…)
I wrote the ceremony and folded 1,000 origami cranes. My mom custom-made my dress. My stepfather officiated and my mother-in-law was our witness. It took place in a labyrinth on the west lawn of our little farm. The only thing that could have made it better: if I could have been able to drink at my reception. (If you do the math, daughter #2 had a non-starring role at our wedding. No wonder my dress kept needing to be resized!)

March 8, 2014 (the day my second daughter was born…)
Since I had a better idea of what childbirth was all about, it wasn’t quite as stressful the second time. We were anticipating a boy (but I was not-so-secretly relieved to have another little girl). We named her after my husband’s maternal grandmother. (Plus I looked and felt a lot better on that day than I had the first time around. Go Mama!)
