Musings: Online Persona

Today’s topic is: “Are you different online than you are in person?”

There are a few notable differences between the blog author that you read about online and my offline, real-life self.

Editing, annabelsmith.com

First, I love that I can edit and rewrite my blog posts before publishing. I often spend about half of my time writing and half of my time editing. As a result, I generally feel less eloquent in person, when I don’t get a chance to rewind, delete, and re-speak.

Calvin and Hobbes Frustrated, pinterest.com

Second, I rarely express my frustration or impatience online, but my daily life of mothering two toddlers often includes at least one episode of stern voices and scowling. (I’m continuously working on becoming a more patient, less temperamental mom.)

Oversharing Online, carmelcougarnews.com

Third, there are a few real-life topics that don’t make it onto the blog. I try not to overshare on personal matters like sex, money, and politics. I know some bloggers are happy to share everything about their lives, but I feel more comfortable keeping those areas offline.

That said, if there are other topics you’d like me to write about, please drop me a note in the comments and I’ll try to work them into future Musings.
