Musings: Travel Bucket List

Today’s topic is: “Have you ever traveled to a foreign country? What country would you most like to visit?”

While I’ve done a pretty decent job traveling within the U.S., my map of international travel is rather pathetic. I’ve only been to Brazil, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, Mexico, Canada, and Bermuda.

The list of places I’d like to see has been edited recently. For example, in a pre-Zika world, I would have liked to go watched the Olympic events in Brazil. In a pre-ISIS world, I would have liked to see Europe. But these days, watching the news has made me more and more uncomfortable with the thought of stepping outside my bubble. You see, in my bubble, people are kind to one another, there are no deadly diseases, all the political squabbling has been muted, the sun is shining and the birds are singing. (As you can see, it’s a very, very small bubble.)

Still, there are many places I’d like to see someday…

There are beautiful libraries I dream of visiting.

There are clear blue lagoons I’d love to swim in.

There are ancient cobblestone streets I’d like to walk down.

There are magnificent pieces of artwork that I’d like to stare at for a while.

There are spectacular palaces I’d like to wander through.

And there are herds of New Zealand sheep I’d like to meet.

But for now, I’ll be focusing on traveling within the U.S. and Canada. There is so much still to see here.

Where would you like to go? Share your bucket list destinations in the comments.
