Today’s topic is: “Summer reading time! What books do you plan to read this summer?”
My local library‘s summer reading program starts today which means the whole family is excited! Well, maybe not my husband so much, because he’s usually too busy to read anything except my blog and the online news headlines. But the girls and I are super stoked.
For the last two years, my daughters have participated in this fantastic program (even though they can’t read yet, I read out loud to them). They love marking off their progress on the official entry form that stays taped to the refrigerator. But this year, I’m doubly excited because they have launched a summer reading program for adults also!
So, in addition to reading tons of new (and old) books to my daughters this summer, I plan to aim high and finish more than one book a month! That may sound easy to folks who don’t have two preschoolers, 14 chickens, and an enormous garden at home, but for me, it will certainly be a challenge. I will start with our monthly book club selections (to be sure to finish those on time), but then I have a short list of others that I’d like to try to squeeze in before Labor Day.
Here’s my ambitious reading list for the summer:
Patty Jane’s House of Curl by Lorna Landvik (June 16th book club selection)
In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware (page-turner mystery, recommended by the very awesome Jenna of Cold Antler Farm)
Jewel – Never Broken by Jewel Kilcher (awe-inspiring autobiography, recommended by my mom)
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert (my current title from the Rory Gilmore Reading List, although it won’t count toward the summer reading program because I starting reading it last winter.)
Even though I might not get to them right away, I’d love to hear your recommendations! Share your summer reads in the comments.
